Home at Last, Living Like Kings - our success stories

Here in this house...
I will never know the loneliness I hear in the barks of the other dogs 'out there'.
I can sleep soundly, assured that when I wake, my world will not have changed.
I will never know hunger or the fear of not knowing if I'll eat.
I will not shiver in the cold or grow weary from the heat.
I will feel the sun's heat and the rain's coolness and be allowed to smell all that can reach my nose.
My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.

Here in this house...
There will be an effort to communicate with me on my level.
I will be talked to even if I don't understand.
I can enjoy the warmth of the words.
I will be given a name so that I may know who I am among many.
My name will be used in joy, and I will love the sound of it!

Here in this house...
I will never be a substitute for anything I am not.
I will never be used to improve peoples' images of themselves.
I will be loved because I am who I am, not someone's idea of who I should be.
I will never suffer for someone's anger, impatience or stupidity.
I will be taught all the things I need to know to be loved by all.
If I do not learn my lessons well, they will look to my teacher for blame.

Here in this house...
I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch...
knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me.
If I am ill, I will be doctored.
If scared, I will be calmed.
If sad, I will be cheered.
No matter what I look like, I will be considered beautiful and thought to be of value.
I will never be cast out because I am too old, too ill, too unruly or not cute enough.
My life is a responsibility and not an afterthought.
I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes, be as kind and as fair as dogs.

Here in this house...
I will belong.

Sadie

Adopted September, 2007

Sadie is learning quickly that here in this house, she is the Queen!  After a little over three months, the changes in Sadie are remarkable and those changes continue to surprise and delight this new mommy.  Sadie didn't bark for the first month she was in here and now she barks whenever anyone comes to the door.  She plays with her toys and enjoys chasing the pink ball that she has with her in the picture.  Sadie loves to go on road trips, whether its a nice long ride to visit family and friends or just around the corner to run errands.  When I say we are going in the car, she heads right for it!  She is a VERY fast learner!  Sadie is still startled by loud noises, but is adjusting well.  She is a great companion and we spend my free time together.

Tessa

Adopted July, 2007

A couple of weeks into her new home and Tessa is doing FANTASTIC with the other pooches in the house. The other dogs are helping her gain her courage after her sad past life living in a cage, having pups and no love.  She has lots of love now!!!
Tessa loves her beef chew bones and her new pink rhinestone collar, but she especially enjoys sleeping in the big bed at night, having her own special spot curled up on my left side, her head resting on my shoulder.
I love this girl more then anyone could ever love their baby, she is doing better each day and I am looking for that day when she doesn't have to fear another human.
Tessa is a very spoiled girl and Living like the Queen she is.
Thank you English Toy Spaniel Rescue....oh and I will be back for another baby down the road.

Belina, f/n/a Itsy

Adopted May, 2007

Belina is the love and joy in my life!  She arrived shy, quiet and very thin with protruding hip bones and ribs; barely weighing 3 lbs.  Now she is almost 8 lbs and is the most energetic, outgoing puppy I’ve ever had!  We take her to the doggie beach in Huntington where she wanders from blanket to blanket charming everyone with her cuteness.   You can hear squeals of delight as people notice her wandering onto their blankets.  They will scoop her up and she gets lots of kisses and hugs.  Now she comes to my office on campus every day during the summer where once again she charms everyone that meets her.  Belina loves people and animals and pets, but most of all, me!!!  Thank you English Toy Rescue for being such a loving and caring organization, devoted to the rescue of these sensitive and loving little dogs!

Napa, f/n/a Fancy

Adopted June, 2007

Fancy (now Napa) came to our family on a Thursday evening after a very long day in transport.   As my husband and I drove to meet our new little girl for the first time we both had butterflies in our stomachs! As we pulled into the parking lot we saw the transport van and immediately got excited.   As Fancy came out of the van and saw us she immediately came running over to us!   Within our first five minutes with our new little girl we both had kisses and lots of love!

Fancy was brought to our home with our first child, Penny, and they were fast friends from the beginning!  We now have two very happy girls in our home and they are great together.   We never imagined how much joy Fancy would bring to our lives and we are just thrilled beyond belief to have her in our lives.   Thanks to the English Toy Spaniel Rescue for our new little girl!

Jewel

Adopted May, 2007

Just an update on Jewels...so she is now Molly Brown, as in the "unsinkable Molly Brown!" We sometimes call her Miss Molly, Molly Brown, Good Golly Miss Molly, or just plain old MOLLY.  Not a very original name for a dog, but I was out voted.  I still call her jewels also, so she feels at home. If her socialization keeps up at the rate it has since she's been here, she'll soon be sitting in a chaise lounge drinking "umbrella Drinks" and chatting with the neighbors.  She runs circle eights outside with her tongue hanging out and her ears flopping.  She even lays with the cats.  Today she opened up the bathroom door while I was taking a shower...just to say "HI"!
She helped my husband on a landscaping project we are doing.  He couldn't train her to pick up the rocks, but she sure enjoyed running circles around him. She couldn't keep her eyes open last night, she was bushed.  She sure loves the outdoors. She went to the farm and looked at the cattle from the safety of the truck.  She wasn't sure about them.  The ducks in our pond are just something to look at for her.  I am sure she will be chasing them back into the water soon, like Tinker does now.  We are building her a set of steps so she can easily get off and on my big bed. She loves to lay her head on my pillow.  This morning I woke up with Molly, her head on my shoulder, Tinker under the covers, and straddling the two cats....I had about an inch to go before falling off my big queen bed.  I wonder who the Queen will be now?  Molly will have a wonderful life.  She deserves it.   Thanks for the very good girl.

Persy and Mystic (n/k/a Olive)

Adopted April, 2007

Persy and Olive (f/k/a Mystic) are living the GRAND life in Missouri!  These precious girls will never again be stressed over anything, and certainly not over living a caged life as they now have acres and acres to run and play.  Persy is coming out of her self-imposed shell, learning to trust in leaps and bounds, and thoroughly enjoying her now pampered life.  Persy is giving herself completely to her new family and she is loving life with her new brothers and sisters - shelter rescues who believe it is their duty to protect her!  Her beautiful picture says it all - she is happy!!  Love works wonders on these special kids and it doesn't take them long to realize that life can indeed be very, very good!

Olive has never really known the stresses and neglect that Persy endured as she is just a youngster.  Olive, however, is instrumental in Persy's development - she is teaching Persy that running through the fields is good for the soul; exuberance is liberating; and shyness doesn't get you first in line for the treats!  Olive is loving life in typical black/tan ETS fashion!  Persy and Olive needed each other almost as much as they needed the commitment and love of their new family.  Life took a very sweet turn for these two deserving girls!

Stetson

Adopted April, 2007

Stetson came to live with me when he was 5 ½ months old. He is a delightful, happy, healthy, affectionate young dog with a wonderful temperament and personality to spare! When not bounding for toys or playing with his new furred siblings, he's snuggling close, staring intently with deep, dark eyes until he drifts off to sleep - often from a much-loved belly rub. Stetson is active, engaging and loads of fun! In a short time, he's shown a multitude of traits that have truly endeared him to me. My cat and Stetson are best buddies! They play together for hours at a time, after which Stetson cleans the cat's ears! My other dogs also quickly accepted Stetson into the "pack" and they now share everything, including their bed in which I will constantly find the proverbial "heap of fur" when they are all sleeping atop one another!

Stetson's foster mom did an amazing job with him, and I was utterly impressed with how meticulous his personal information and medical records were when I drove to Ohio to pick him up.  I was given a personalized "kit", including care instructions, collar, harness, leash, tags, medical records, food, toys, treats - even a doggie T-shirt! It was obvious this boy was very well-cared for and received a lot of love in his foster home.  I can't say enough great things about Stetson's foster mom and everyone involved with English Toy Spaniel Rescue.  The adoption process was smooth and everyone was extremely helpful. They are all genuine and dedicated to the Rescue's mission of saving dogs in need and finding them good homes.   My sincere thanks to everyone at English Toy Spaniel Rescue for enabling me to have this wonderful and very special little dog named Stetson in my life!

Beau

Adopted April, 2007

Beau went to his forever home at 6 months of age and quickly became a therapy dog for his new Cavalier brother, Teller.  Beau, full of energy and himself, has springs in his feet (!) and loves to run, jump and play.  Beau is bringing much needed fun and joy into the life of his Cavalier brother, Teller, who has Episodic Falling Syndrome.  The two are inseparable and Beau has been credited with adding immeasurably to Teller's quality of life!  Beau loves the yard, doggy door, sticks, and wrestling with Teller.  But most of all, Beau loves his new life, his new family, and his new purpose in life - to bring joy and happiness to all!  His "wide open" personality is infectious.  His new mom says, "One look at him, and it's instant love!"

Beau has found his forever home in TN with two Cavaliers, two Miniature Schnauzers, and all the love and sticks he can stand.  WAY TO GO, BEAU!!!!

Milo

Adopted December, 2006

Milo-adopted 12/2006

Milo came to us 2 weeks before Christmas, on a cold afternoon. We had never met him in "person", having only e mailed his rescue foster mother back and forth. We had seen photo's, and as he was in a foster home, we knew all about his health (as he had a complete vetting) that he liked other dogs, had started his housetraining (fantastic!), he had a wonderful personality, and he was 8 months old. We stood in the airline cargo area, quite excited, and filled with anticipation.  And then, suddenly, there he was, all tail wagging and kisses, bright eyed and bushy tailed! Our 8 year old daughter, a confirmed cat lover, fell in love on the spot, and he became "hers".

From the moment he arrived, he has been such a joy. Happy and light of heart, he has been such a wonderful companion to our other dog, who seems to now have a new lease on life. Milo's sunny attitude towards everything is contagious. Even our cats have been quite won over! He is bright and funny, willing to learn, and easy to train.

This little dog, no more than 8 pounds or so, who did not start off life in the best of circumstances, continues now bring us not only joy, but most of all, inspires us as a family to love with the same selflessness as he does. Thank you English Toy Spaniel Rescue, for Milo, and for all that he has brought to our lives. He is to us without measure or price.
